Pinterest is something I use often for All Things Allison Marie, Simply Loving Jesus,
recipes, and personal enjoyment. The app has taught me some valuable
life lessons, though, and in today’s post I wanted to share them with
you.
1. Life is beautiful…
Have you ever scrolled through pictures of scenery and God’s creation
on Pinterest? They’re beautiful. Looking through those pictures, you
see so much of God’s creation. You see places you’ve never seen before
but dream of visiting someday! I think that’s one thing Pinterest has
taught me. This world is so beautiful and there is so much to explore.
2. But not perfect
But even in the midst of all the beauty, this life isn’t perfect. We
see that as we scroll through the before mentioned pictures and see
scattered throughout pictures of hurting people and those trapped in
sin. Pinterest has taught me that, yes, life is beautiful, but it’s not
perfect. It can’t be because sin entered the world in the Garden of
Eden (Genesis 3). We have to guard ourselves from that sin, and keep
our eyes from looking at the evil.
3. Godliness with contentment is great gain
We see pictures of other girls with “perfect” hair, skin, clothes,
and homes. It’s easy to want the things they have. Jealousy and
comparison can eat us alive though. 1 Timothy 6:6 reminds us that
“godliness with contentment is great gain”. We have to remember to be
content with all of the blessings God has given us. Pinterest has
taught me that this world is always chasing after the next greatest
thing, but as a Christian I should be content with what Jesus has given
me, especially Himself.
4. Being genuine is important
So many things on Pinterest are staged and taken to show only the
best parts of a person’s life. That is true with all of social media!
But we know this life isn’t perfect. Behind every picture is an
imperfect, hurting person. Pinterest has taught me that genuineness is
so important. We need to stand together and embrace our imperfections,
and strive to be more like Jesus as a body of believers. When we’re
competing with each other or showing the world that we have it all
together, we can’t do that.
5. Many things can be used for good & bad
Just like so many things in this world, Pinterest can be used for
good and bad. It can be used to fuel our creative endeavors, to find
backgrounds for edits, modest outfit inspiration, and to find new
recipes, among other things. But it can also be used for bad. It can
be used to distract ourselves from our problems, look at things we
shouldn’t, tear others down, or to compare ourselves to others and what
we want. As Christian girls, we should seek to use Pinterest for good
and to honor God. Pinterest has further taught me that while something
can be used for good, it can also be used for evil.
I hope you enjoyed this! Is there anything else that Pinterest (or
another social media) has taught you?
