We can all agree that we live in a crazy world, right? It’s fast
paced, always changing, and trying to sell us something at every turn.
So should we try to keep up? When the fashion trend changes, should we
change with it? Should we buy all of the things that are pushed our
way, promising to make us happy? No. As Christian girls, we should seek contentment.
“Now godliness with contentment is great gain.”
1 Timothy 6:6
But why? And how?
I think we all know somebody in our lives that has the latest and
greatest thing- no matter what it is. When we want all that they have,
jealousy eats us alive. Have you ever been so jealous of somebody? It
ruins your day/week/life etc. and discourages you as long as you are
jealous. I know I have. But why waste our life being jealous when we
have so much?
I read somewhere (who knows on the internet!) that even if you only
have $10 in your bank account, you are richer than like half of the
world. Isn’t that crazy?? We have so much, and God has done so much for us
(hashtag blessed). Maybe that’s why we should be content? We have it
so good. I mean, you are on an electronic device right now reading
this! I know you’ve probably heard it a thousand times- count your
blessings. You could be digging in the trash for your next meal.
Alright, so you’re probably thinking “enough with the whole count
your blessings thing!” How can we be content being well off Christian
girls in this crazy world?
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have
plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every
situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in
want.”
Philippians 4:12
It’s Jesus y’all! Jesus brings us contentment.
When we look to Him to fill us up versus the world, we end up being
full. Unlike the things our world tries to give us that leave us
feeling empty.
If you are feeling jealous or craving more today, I encourage you to just pray. And read God’s Word (the Bible :)) Seek God and ask Him to fill you up. His love, grace, and peace will if you let it.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.””
Hebrews 13:5
